WHY I LIKE TO ATTEND MY CLASS REUNIONS

I haven’t missed one of our class reunions. Part of the reason is that I’ve always helped with the planning of them. But secondly, and most importantly, is that I don’t’ want to miss the connections I rekindle or make for the first time.

When we graduated, our class had approximately 207 students. Back then, I could put a face to every classmate’s name, but I certainly didn’t know much about most of them. At each class reunion I have had the opportunity to get to know some of those classmates better and I always walk away regretting I didn’t really know those individuals while still in high school. I’ve found out that we have some pretty cool people in our class.

Some people don’t’ want to attend reunions because they think it’s a big comparison game about who is the most successful. Others think it will be just like high school with cliques. I can assure you; our reunions are not like that. We are glad to see each other. We are happy each of us is still healthy enough to make it to the reunion. We’ve all had our share of troubles and sunshine, and it’s good to hear about what others have been through. We reminisce a lot, talk about our kids and grand-kids, and how life has treated us. We connect or reconnect.

We all went through high school together. No other grade experienced what we did as a class. We have roots, we have friends, we have family within our class. We are at the point in our lives where our future is shorter than our past. Every day needs to count, and in my opinion, attending our reunion will be a great use of my time. I hope you think so too.
